The small town of Hveragerði is in the south of Iceland with the river Varmá running through it.
Hveragerði is set in a large geothermal area and has a short history, its only a few decades old. The surrounding area is a part of Hengill central volcano and it is geothermally active, has very frequent (small) earthquakes.
Greenhouse cultivation is the primary industry in Hveragerði and the town is known for its greenhouses, they are heated by extremely hot water from the volcanic hot springs in the area and town. The main emphasis of the houses are vegetables, flowers and even exotic fruits.
