The West of Island is an amazing area characterized by fjords, valleys, volcanoes and craters. The pearl of the peninsula is the Snaefellsjokull glacier with its beautiful ice cap visible from everywhere. The West is also the home of the world´s largest hot spring, Deildartunguhver.
In the West, the water flows from the earth in every form, sparkling cool mineral water to Europe’s voluminous hot spring. Every kind of volcano is to be found in the West of Iceland and the clearest sign is perhaps the perfectly formed crater of Snaefellsjökull with its glacial cap.
In olden times West Iceland and Breidafjorur were flourishing agricultural regions with plentiful food resources.
