Snæfellsjökull is a stratovolcano with a glacier covering its summit in western Iceland. The name of the mountain is actually Snæfell, but normally calles “Snæfellsjökull” to discern it from two other mountains with this name. The mountain is included in the Snæfellsjökull National Park.

Snæfellsjökull is situated on the most western part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland, it may be seen from Reykjavík over the bay of Faxaflói, at the distance of 120 km.

The Glacier is also famous for treat powers and energy that many spiritually minded people sense from it. Some say that is  on of the “Seven greatest energy centres of the world”

On June 28th in 2001 the “Snæfellsjökull National Park” was founded. The park covers over 170 km2 and lies in the outer regions of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Snæfellsjökull National Park is the fist National Park in Iceland that reaches out into the sea.
