Criminal Intent?

11.10.2007

Arnaldur Indriðason published his first book in 1997 and many believe that this marked the start of a new wave of Icelandic crime fiction. Many new authors have since then published criminal books and Icelandic readers wait with impatience for the next ones.

Arnaldur's books are gripping, authentic, with tender melancholic and a sensitivity for the Icelandic society but yet so international, you feel like these stories could happen everywhere.

His first major hit, "Myrin" (Jar City) and the year-after "Grafarþögn" (Silence of the Grave) both brought the author The Glass Key Prize, a literature prize for the best Nordic crime novel. Silence of the Grave also received the Golden Dagger in 2005, hosted by the Crime Writer's Association in Britain.

Arnaldur's books have been translated to a number of languages and been very well received abroad, as by readers and critics in Iceland.
