Having a kid
18.03.2008
Although still early in spring, the goat, Perla (Pearl) had a small kid on the 6th of March. Perla lives in the Reykjavik Zoo & Family Park along with some of her family members. To have a kid in March is unusually early, as the lambing season starts around mid May.
Goats have a long history in Iceland, since they came here with the first settlers. Now there are only few left.
In the Reykjavik Zoo & Family Park you will find: Horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, foxes, minks, reindeer, seals, hens, chickens, turkey, pigeons, rabbits, guinea pigs, geese, ducks, dogs and cats. From time to time there are also some rear visitors, wild birds that need treatment. It's main focus is on Icelandic farm animals as well as several wild native species.
When traveling with children to Reykjavik City this is the place to visit. Summer or winter it is always fun and an absolute must is to watch when the seals are fed at 11 am every day.
