Winter Festival in Reykjavik February 7th to 9th

The ones visiting Reykjavik from 7th to 9th of February are in for a treat, since then the Winter Festival in Reykjavik will be held. This is absolutely a perfect opportunity to blend in with the locals.
The opening ceremony is on Thursday the 7th with a big parade beginning in front of Hallgrimskirkja Church, leading down to the Pond. Musician, dancers and all sorts of creatures will join in this parade.
At several clubs there is dancing and all kinds of music during this weekend. The City Hall will be transformed into a scientific workshop about buildings and light for all ages, where you can watch, learn and take part in various activities. The museums of Reykjavik will open their doors wide open as well as The National Theatre and invite visitors to special events. Join in and learn how to dance tango or even participate in the Marathon Tango on the 9th.
The children are in priority during the Winter Festival. On Friday the 8th the kindergartens in the mid part of Reykjavik will come together at Kjarvalsstadir Museum and salute the Icelandic weather with various performances. "Winter Olympics" for teenagers and their families will be held later that day. Easy and fun challenges and will depend upon the weather.
The Cultural Centre, Gerduberg, located in a hilly suburb of Reykjavik, has a special event on Saturday the 9th. This is the "International Children's Day" with art workshops and happenings from all corners of the world, for children all ages.
