DAY 1
Arrival and overnight in Reykjavik (transfer from international airport not included)
DAY 2
Today's highlights are many including Þingvellir national park, a place of great geological and historical interest, the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot-spring area. Drive onwards along the mighty Þjórsá river into Þjórsárdalur valley with Mt.Hekla, Iceland's most famous volcano towering above. From there head to the South Shore.
Optional: River rafting in the Geysir area, ATV-quad biking in Haukadalur, Stöng -Viking age farmhouse.
DAY 3
Visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Onwards to Dyrholaey* a rocky headland where thousands of puffins nest in summer. Across the vast lava field of Eldhraun to the picturesque village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent.
Optional: Skógar folk museum.
*Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season in spring, middle May til June 23rd
DAY 4
Skaftafell National Park, a green oasis nestling below the great Vatnajökull glacier, offers different hiking possibilities. Continue to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon where huge icebergs, float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon. Drive along the rugged and varied coastline of Austfirðir, Iceland´s magnificent East Fjords to Egilsstaðir the largest town in the east.
Optional: Jeep tour to Vatnajökull glacier, Boat tour on Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, Boat tour to Papey island, Petra's stone collection
DAY 5
Explore Egilsstaðir and its surroundings. Visit Hallormsstaður the largest forest plantation in Iceland set along the Lagarfljót lake, which according to legend contains a monster.
Optional: Bout tour on Lagarfljót lake.
DAY 6
Drive to Vopnafjörður village, with its spectacular coast and natural hot springs, continue to Þórshöfn a village with 500 inhabitants which is situated on the Langanes peninsula and further on to Melrakkaslétta.
Optional: Burstafell museum and old farmstead
DAY 7
Visit Ásbyrgi, a magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon in Jökulsárgljúfur National Park. Drive along the Tjörnes peninsula to the fishing port of Húsavík, continue to Akureyri the capital of the north.
Optional: Whale watching from Húsavík
DAY 8
Visit Godafoss waterfall on the way to Myvatn. Explore the natural wonders of Lake Mývatn area including the fantastic lava formations of Dimmuborgir, the volcanic area of Krafla, and the pseudocraters of Skútustaðir. Back to Akureyri.
DAY 9
From Akureyri continue over Öxnardalur pass to the historical region of Skagafjörður renowned for horsebreeding. There is the option of visiting the old farmstead of Glaumbær a great example of old Icelandic architecture.
Optional: River rafting in Skagafjörður, horse riding in Skagafjörður.
DAY 10
Circle around the legendary Snæfellsjökull glacier, which covers a central volcano and Jules Verne made so known. Explore the magnificent columnar basalt rock formations at Arnarstapi. Pass the magnificent Eldborg crater onwards to the agricultural region of Borgarfjörður.
DAY 11
Departure (transfer not included).
